Ronnie Sondahl’s dramatic and energetic soccer film TIGERS — Sweden’s submission to the Academy Awards for Best International Feature — will have a special screening on Saturday, December 11, at Scandinavia House in New York City.
(Ed. note: An earlier version of this article had the date incorrectly listed as December 10. Sorry for any confusion.)
The screening is part of ScanHouse’s annual “Nordic and Baltic Oscar Contenders” series. Since ScanHouse is the longtime home ground for K+S New York festivals, we are supporting the screening and offering a $5.00 discount on tickets. Just use the code Kicking when purchasing tickets.
TIGERS tells the real-life story of Martin Bengtsson, one of the most promising football talents Sweden has ever seen. The film is adapted from Bengtsson’s autobiography, I skuggan av San Siro. At 16, Bengtsson, played by Erik Enge, is bought by Inter Milan. It’s a dream career move, but it comes at a very high price in terms of sacrifice, dedication, pressure and - most of all - loneliness.
TIGERS also stars Harry Potter alum Alfred Enoch as a promising American player in the Inter setup.
Ultimately, it is a coming-of-age drama about a young man’s burning obsession in a world where everything — and everyone — has a price tag.
The Hollywood Reporter called it “a compelling look at the dark side of sports glory.” We just call it a great soccer film.
