Liverpool FC documentary The End of the Storm, fresh off of winning the Golden Whistle for best feature at the 2021 Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival, is now available to stream via VOD in the United States.
The film is available on the following platforms:
Directed by James Erskine (Billie, Shooting for Socrates), The End of the Storm is the inside story of English giants Liverpool FC’s Premier League-winning season in 2019-20 — their first domestic championship in decades.
Exclusive interviews with charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp and star players Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane, among others, reveal the up-and-down emotions of chasing an historic title while navigating the disruptions of a global pandemic. After hearing from them all, one can’t help but find oneself rooting for them.
Punctuating the narrative are stories of Liverpool fans around the world, who support from afar but feel intimately connected when the long trophy wait is finally over.
Why we love it: “The End of the Storm is, in many ways, a traditional behind-the-scenes documentary about a sports team, but it’s also so much more,” said K+S cofounder and head of programming Rachel Markus. “Jurgen Klopp is such a unique character in football and in soccer films. It’s how he both imparts his love of the game to his players and internalizes the passion of the city and fans. You don’t have to be a Liverpool fan or even a soccer fan to love this story of a team triumphing during one of the most challenging moments in modern world history.”
Grace note: Pop star Lana Del Ray recorded a special version of the Liverpool anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” for the film.
